The first night meeting back for the year at Canterbury attracted a 7 race card, featuring a maiden 1900m for the stayers consisting of 6 runners, with the prize money of $40k to the winner with a $10k BOBS EXTRA bonus it was a race no maiden stayer could refuse.
Yves Klein Blue has been one of the most consistant maiden gallopers around the provincial circuit, having 13 starts prior to Friday night managing 4 second placing's, 3 third placing's and a handful of 4ths and 5ths and on Friday night the spotlight was on him. Ridden to perfection by apprentice Winona Costin, Costin steered the Hussonet gelding to victory, beating hot favorite Napoleon. Costin stole the race just before the turn by skipping away on the field, he was headed by the favorite near the post but the toughness of the gelding kicked in eventually winning by a head with a further 5 lengths away to the third place getter.
He's a lovely stayer in the making, with a pedigree boasting of Melbourne Cup, Derby and Oaks winners and place getter's there is only upside to this horses future, he has only stepped out over the 2000m once in his career finishing second, he has finally matured enough now to take the step up in distance.
To add to the success of the night, it was the first city win for the newly based Warwick Farm stable since returning from a 9 month reconstruction of the stable.
