When Magicaz resumed work after her impressive victory at Albury back in March she was different, she had confidence, poise and a bit of an attitude, the attitude of horse will the will to win.
She just has not stopped improving, she has had 3 starts back in, her first assignment was mid week metro race at Canterbury, she settled back from an awkward gate and worked to line very strongly, next she was sent to Hawkesbury for a Class 1 1400m event, where on paper it looked like a very winnable race, there was a couple of nice horses in it including Dream Lane who had been racing competivley in town on Saturdays, Jay Ford was Magicaz’s new rider, the old combination of Ford and Karakatsanis, a force to be reckoned with over many many years, were out to get the filly home for another victory and thats exactly what happened. She was drawn 2 and the fence wasn’t the place to be but thats were we ended up, scoring impressively by 1.5 lengths our hands went up in the air and we all shed a tear, it was the first winner where Brian had been able to make it to the races to watch, it was all very emotional, exactly what racing should be about. After all our excitement we had to plan our next attack, it was to raise the bar again, stepping her up to mid week metro level at Warwick Farm, here she faced seasoned fillies and mares in a benchmark 67 1400m event, it wasn’t going to be easy and the punters all over looked her, but we knew our filly, she once again was drawn in close and ended up on the fence, no horse had won near the fence all day but once Jay balanced her up and sent her home we knew she would gun down her opponents and win and thats exactly what she done, what a thrill that was.
The excitement she has provided her owners Brian and Lyn Mcgrath is just wonderful to see. They have put a lot of time and money into the industry and its a great way to repay them for there support.
Magicaz is a very promising filly and the best is yet to come, where to next, well there are a few options and a few decisions to be made. That will all be decided over some carrots on Saturday morning when Brian comes to visit his little champ.
